Michael Joseph Jackson (born August 29th, 1958) was an American musician and entertainer, whose successful career and frequently controversial, enigmatic personal life have been a part of pop culture of the 80's and the 90's.
He began his career at the age of five, the family group called Jackson Five; moreover he already started a solo activity in 1971, with the record "Got to be there". In 1979 is his definitive debut as solo artist; he became the most successful pop artist ever; that mainly thanks to Thriller (1982), which is still the most sold album of all music history, produced by Quincy Jones and winner of 13 Grammy awards. According to his spokeswoman Raymone Bain, the singer sold over 750 million records.
In more than fourty years of career Michael Jackson received several awards, among which those as "Best Male Pop Artist of the Millennium" at the World Music Awards in 2000 and as "Artist of the Century" at the American Music Awards in 2002. He was included twive in the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame, in 1997 as vocalist of Jackson Five and in 2001 for his solo career.
On November 25th 2006 Jackson performed at World Music Awards, in London. There he received the Diamond Award, which honours the artists who sold over 100 million copies with their albums. Moreover he was awarded by a representative of Record Guinness, for celebrating the sale of 104 million copies of the album Thriller (1982).
